Pebble Graybanner, (more commonly referred to as Pebble) was one of the Villager children attending the Villagetown School of Minecraft and Warriory. After learning that the top 5 students that year could become warriors, he, like many others, strived to obtain one of the top spots. He was observed to be highly skilled in both mining, thanks to his family’s background, and combat, even surpassing Runt in their eventual duel[1], only being defeated thanks to the Protective enchantment on Runt’s cloak. It was later revealed in that Urf, under Herobrine‘s command, swapped one of Pebble’s healing potions for a Confusion III, leading to him attempting to murder Runt and “put him out of the picture”.[2]

Pebble was exiled from the village the next day, and disowned by his father, leaving all his worldly possessions to Runt. In the book spin-off Path of Exile, he manages to survive with zero items by looting the items of fallen adventurers and scouring the ruins of abandoned villages for items. He encounters the Skull Lord, shortly after coming across the adventurer S.

Appearance[]

Before his exile, Pebble was observed wearing either a lime-green robe, or a black robe with light grey sleeves. After meeting S, he clad himself in Obsidian Plate armour, acting as the tank to S's mobility, using twin Redsteel axes.

Personality[]

Pebble was seen by a bully by both Runt and Max, ripping their gradebooks and sabotaging their projects. He and his friends were seen harassing Runt, and often trying to steal his items. He has a cocky attitude, belittling Runt's achievements and flaunting his own, as seen when he received war hero status and a new cape. It is subtly implied in the books that the reason for this is that Pebble’s father pushed him to see Team Runt as competition. Pebble's father often placed high expectations on his son, to attempt to turn him into a future Mayor of Villagetown.

When Pebble met Runt in the dungeon, he was no longer a bully, and was much nicer to Runt, while much more timid. He was also much less reckless in his combat style, as noted by Runt in 8BW6. Having lived in the wild and had to fend for his life, trivial fights and petty squabbles meant nothing when faced with starvation, violence, and even death.

Backstory[]

Despite all his best efforts, his dad always viewed him as a failure to the Graybanner family, who are a richer, more powerful family in Villagetown.

Pebble, before his exile, took out most of this pressure on others, especially the noob named Runt (refer to 8-Bit Warrior books 2-4), possibly because he saw him as competition or because of simple chance.

However, his life took a sharp turn when Herobrine began invading his dreams, trying to convince Pebble that Runt was a danger to the village. Pebble ignored this until the day when he saw Runt playing with Jello through his bedroom window.

Since mobs have been raiding Villagetown more than ever, and Urf, one of the former elders, betraying the village and turned to Herobrine’s side, people became cautious about who they spend time with. As a result, after Pebble saw Runt playing with Jello, he had a conspiracy that Runt was also a spy and harmed the village unless he was to be killed.

That night, Urf put a confusion potion which he named a healing potion in Pebble's inventory. The next day Pebble drank the confusion potion under the impression that it was a healing potion. These potions cause people to think non-rationally, which likely is why he tried to take matters into his own hands.

One night as Runt was walking back home, Pebble, still under the effect of the confusion potion, along with his gang grabbed him and took him to a room next to the eastern wall. They put Runt into a hole, placed TNT into the outer walls, and fled the blast-zone. Runt survived and he climbed out of the ’valley‘ that was created under the eastern wall after the explosion and clashed with Pebble in a fierce duel. Runt won due to the enchantment from his cloak that Pebble didn’t anticipate, only to see a zombie horde trying to exploit the new hole in the defense.

After clearing the invasion, Pebble realized his mistake and offered everything he had to Runt. Runt did not take it. He then admitted to the mayor freely that he was to blame for the sabotage, and was exiled for his crimes.

Afterwards, he spent weeks wandering the wilds, barely surviving on random item piles that were once other people, and encountering starvation and cold frequently. He was also being pursued by a band of Pigmen trackers, and later managed to kill them, one by one. Herobrine also appeared to him in a dream, and tried to entice him to join the monster army. Pebble refused. Herobrine told Pebble that he was a descendent of a Highborn(Villager) king in Path of Exile. He later met S, a ‘protector’ of a sorts whom not much is known about, who gave him obsidian armour and two redsteel axes.

Later, while exploring the Tomb of the Forgotten King, Pebble and S encounter Breeze and Runt while fighting Felhounds. They defeat them, and move on to the boss room. They encounter Urf, who reveals himself as a Nethermancer working for Herobrine and soulshifts into Nethersoul, the boss.

After defeating Nethersoul/Boss Urf, Pebble and S accompany Breeze and Runt back to Owl's Reach, then set off to light the beacon at the Temple of the Sapphire Flame, at which they succeed.
